FAQs on Iris Authentication Solutions

Where is Biometric authentication data stored?
For our iris authentication systems, data is stored nowhere, in raw form. Infisign uses zero-knowledge proofs, which means your iris is turned into a secure mathematical template. When you log in, the system checks a new scan against that template without ever exposing or storing the actual biometric data.
What happens if an iris authentication fails?
Access is denied and logged instantly. Repeated failures trigger a lockout or step-up check, like a passkey, before another attempt is allowed.
Is an iris scan better than a fingerprint?
Both are strong. Iris patterns are more complex and don't wear down like fingerprints, especially for gloved or clinical use. Infisign supports both.
What's the tradeoff with iris authentication versus a password?
Passwords can be stolen or phished. Iris scans can't be shared or faked, but they need a compatible camera. Infisign lets you combine both allowing you to use passwords and iris authentication systems as needed.
What is the difference between biometric and iris recognition?
Biometrics is the broad category of any physical trait used to verify you. Iris recognition is one type, prized for its accuracy and stability based on the unique scan of your retina, or specifically your iris.
How accurate is iris recognition?
Iris recognition has very low false-match rates, since each iris pattern is unique and stays stable for life, ideal for high-security access.
Do I need additional device setup for Iris scan?
Yes, as is the case with any secure iris authentication system, on more than one compatible device, you'll need to enroll your iris separately on each device. Each supported device stores its own biometric enrollment securely.
